The Cumberland Plateau rises high above Middle Tennessee, roughly midway between Nashville and Knoxville, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The elevation cools the sultry southern summers, yet the winters remai n mild. Relaxation and recreation go hand in hand under the perfect blue Tennessee sky. Crossville, TN, in the heart of the Cumberland Plateau, features a traditional “hometown” atmosphere, with his tory and traditional values evident from its numerous city and state parks to its historic downtown and Homestead areas. If you’re in the mood for metropolitan shopping and dining, larger towns such as Knoxville, Nashville and Chattanooga are just a short trip away.

Nothing is more relaxing than enjoying the great outdoors on the Cumberland Plateau. With four local state parks, including the newly developed Cumberland Trail, as well as the nearby Smoky Mountains, there are endless opportunities for outdoor recreation on the Plateau and in the Middle Tennessee area.

In the mood to relax in style? The Crossville area also boasts a number of resort complexes, including Fairfield Glade and Lake Tansi Village. Altogether, the resorts and country clubs in the area offer a dozen golf courses and countless lakes, rivers, and hiking trails.

Climate
The quality of climate is perhaps one of Crossville's strongest attributes. Crossville's elevation (2,000 feet) and southern mountain loca tion are the principle reasons for its' pleasant four season climate...enjoying long springs and falls, mild winters, and summers that are quite warm during the day but cool at night, typical of the mountain South.

Autumn is especially colorful in Tennessee. The fall colors are celebrated in grand style...and they well should be as more than 300 species of hardwoods grow here, a larg er variety than is found almost anywhere in the world. Gentle fall weather allows the colors to linger and you'll want to linger too.

Health Care
Crossville's health care is impressive, given the size of the community. Crossville serves as the major health care center of most of the surrounding counties. The hospital, Cumberland Medical Center, offers a diversification of services such as: full accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals, emergency room facilities with 24 hour physician coverage, an extensive care unit with telemetry, complete medical/surgical services, diagnostic outpatient services, 24 hour ambulance delivery, ambulatory care unit/one day surgery, nuclear medicine with ultrasound and CAT scanner, mammography suite, and Life Star helicopter for emergency air-lift to larger cities and hospitals. With hundreds of beds and a full complement of physicians (1 for every 800 people) and staff, Crossville is moving progressively forward in the health care category. Health care is surprisingly lower in cost than most other retirement areas.
